Watermelons take time and energy to cut, plain and simple. They're big, awkward and can take some serious maneuvering skills to slice properly.
Thankfully, some very smart people engineered job-specific knives to make the process a million times easier. Whether it's to save time, simplify the process, or take the danger out of the equation, there is a watermelon slicer for the job.

Below we've outlined the 7 best watermelon slicers to date. We encourage you to take a look at our "Consider before you buy" section below so you can make an educated buy. Comment at the bottom of the page if you have any questions.

Consider Before You Buy
1) Slicer Type
It's important to consider what kind of cuts you want to create with your watermelon slicer.
-If you prefer wedges (with the rind attached), we recommend the melon corer models.
-If you like watermelon cubes (no rind) for fruit salads and platters, go with the windmill slicers.
-If you prefer a solid knife that cuts through the tough watermelon rind with no problems, go for the large watermelon knife.
-If you can't decide and you want them all, go with the watermelon slicer set.
-If you want complete control over your cuts for artistic fruit decorations, go with the fruit slicer set.
-If you want a simple watermelon cutter that creates fun shapes for the kids, go with the popsicle shape slicer.
2) Versatility
Consider any other fruits you may want to cut. Some of the slicers listed won't work well with other fruits. The corers, for example, are too big to slice up fruits like apples and pears. They do however, cut into cantaloupe nicely. Consider the size and shape of the fruits you will be cutting before making a purchase solely for watermelon.
3) Arm/Hand Strength
Reading through a lot of the watermelon slicer reviews, the most common complaint was how difficult it was to slice the watermelon. For many of the customers, this was probably due to a lack of reading the instructions. Many of these slicers only work when the watermelon is properly prepared for the job (look at all the pictures for each product. Most will have illustrated instructions to guide you through the proper cut).
If you don't think you'll have the leverage or hand strength to use the corer or windmill slicer, the watermelon knife is extremely large and sharp. The overwhelming response from customers was how easy it was to cut through the rind. Just a few things to keep in mind.
4) Mess Created
Watermelons have a messy meat (especially overripe ones). Make sure to account for the mess that will be made with each slicer. Corers will leave relatively little mess, while windmill slicers can send projectile watermelon cubes across the kitchen floor. Just something to keep in mind.
7 Best Watermelon Slicers
1) Yueshico Windmill Cutter Slicer

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
This little nifty contraption is the only watermelon slicer that will truly cut your watermelon cubing time in half. While most of these knife engineers looked to make the job easier, the windmill technology focuses on you spending less time cutting those awkward fruits into bite sized pieces.
The most common response from verified customers, not surprisingly, was how much time it took off their slicing jobs. If you (or your kids) enjoy watermelon often, then you understand the monotony of slicing these huge fruits. The windmill technology also cuts the watermelon into little rectangles (0-2 cm thick cuts), taking the rind completely out of the equation. There are no "sharp" blades (plastic and sheet metal) which makes it pretty kid friendly to use.
There were a couple complaints about the amount of arm strength it takes to make the cuts. If you thought a traditional knife took too much hand/arm strength to cut a melon, maybe steer clear of this model. A sharper bladed knife might be your best bet. Also, a windmill slicer does not make completely uniform slices. The rectangles will slightly vary in size.
2) FEENM 15" Large Melon Corer

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
A larger version of its apple-coring predecessor, this watermelon slicer is everything it advertises. The picture above reveals what happens after a couple solid pushes using your body weight. In a few seconds, this slicer can cut a full sized watermelon into 12 uniform wedges. It's a simple piece of technology that relies on:
1) A Sharp Blade
and
2) Sturdy, Grippable Handles
Two qualities customers remarked unanimously that this slicer possesses.
There were a handful of complaints from customers about the force it took to push the slicer through the watermelon. I'm inclined to believe these customers did not cut slices off both sides of the watermelon (as advertised) before using the watermelon slicer. The round and tough watermelon rind makes it hard for any blade to cut, let alone a blade that cuts the whole thing in one go. If you decide to go this route, know that you'll have to cut a little of the rind off to get anywhere.
3) Hiverst Heavy Duty 10"
Watermelon Slicer

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
Let's get straight to the point.
What separates this model from the watermelon corer above it?
This model has heavy duty blades that require less force when slicing a watermelon. The overall customer consensus is that this is in fact true. It also has heavy duty steel handles that feel much sturdier than the watermelon corer above.
However, this watermelon slicer's blade is approximately 5" smaller than the corer above, so if you want the option of cutting bigger melons, this slicer may not be the one for you. This model also does not create a core cut, so if you plan to use it for melons, it will not de-seed.
Overall, A fantastic watermelon slicer with a few restrictions. Weigh out the pros and cons and find what will work best for your needs.
4) Kuhn Rikon Melon Knife

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
By far, the greatest reviewed watermelon slicer on our list. With just over 150 reviews, this slicer has sustained a 4.7 / 5 star Amazon rating (as of 08/06/2020). Customers seemed adamant on spreading the good word by suggesting things like, "cuts through melons like it was forged with a burning hatred for all things singular" and "if I'm ever stuck on a deserted island, I want this knife with me." When people are happy, they get poetic. Plain and simple.
This knife is long (blade is 12" approximately), sharp (Japanese Steel), and cuts through watermelons like butter. For the price, you really can't beat it. Besides watermelons, people also liked the long, jagged blade for bread, pineapple, and cantaloupe.
5) YJHome 5 Piece Fruits Slicer, Peeler, Cutter, Corer, and Baller

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
This is the ultimate slicer set for those who like to get artsy in the kitchen. If you want to create cantaloupe bowls with a uniformly spiked edge, the corer and precision carver can do it for you in jiffy. While convenient for watermelon, it is not going to be the tool that cuts down your slicing time. It will, however, give you ultimate control over your cuts for all fruits.
6) Riveira 3-Piece Watermelon Slicer, Windmill Cuber and Knife

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
If you're interested in this awesome set, you can check out the pros and cons of each slicer individually (windmill slicer and the Watermelon Knife). The only new, unreviewed knife here is the curved slicer. If you didn't know, the curved slicer is the funky-looking, curved knife in the picture above.
While the idea for this knife was good, the engineering isn't sound. If you research this style slicer throughout Amazon, you'll find that none of them reviewed well. A cool addition to the set, but ultimately you'll end up using the watermelon knife and windmill far more often. For the price, you still can't beat it.
7) TXIN Watermelon Popsicle
Shape Slicer (2 Piece)

Dimensions
Unique Features
Pros
Cons
Summary:
Yes, probably the simplest design ever! But it makes all the difference when you're putting on a show for the kids. If you want a fun and creative way of delivering that delicious watermelon to your guests, I can't recommend it enough. Kids and adults alike loved the popsicle shape. It brings something new to the monotony of healthy eating.
Concluding
Watermelons can be a huge pain to cut, but they don't have to be. Take the time to find the right one for you and we seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. The models we've outlined above have proven themselves to be the best candidates for the job.
