Most pans are limited with what they can do with stir fry. There's a solid reason chefs continue to use woks. They're quick to heat, easy to clean, and their huge volume makes cooking for large parties easier than ever.

But even with the right wok, not all of us have a nice commercial stove capable of getting the right heat. Thankfully, some insightful engineers made some home wok-burners that make restaurant quality stir fry attainable.

Below we've outlined the 10 best wok burners in terms of size, fuel, height, power, and of course, positive customer feedback.

Enjoy!

Qualities to Consider

1) Height?

By far the most common complaint from customers were in regards to the the height of their wok burner. Take the time to find the burner height that works best for you. Most of us will prefer it to be somewhere around grill height. Look for extendable/removable legs to make adjustments, storage, and transportation as easy as possible.

Below we've outlined different height models so you can make an educated buy...

34" (Approximate) Commercial Wok Burner

15-30" Height Adjustments

15-28" Height Adjustments

18-26" Height Adjustments

24" Tall

2) Propane, Natural Gas, or Electric?

Propane tends to be a better alternative to natural gas in terms of heat power and price (prices can change over time). Propane is also better for outdoor applications, while electric is better for indoor (for obvious reasons). Eight of the ten wok burners below are propane-fueled.

3) Diameter of Wok/Burner?

Make sure the wok you have in mind will fit with the burner in question. Another common complaint was, "the wok doesn't fit right".

-The King Kooker below comes with its own wok that fits seamlessly with its setup.

-The Eastman Outdoor model handles up to an 18" wok.

-The ARC USA Pressure Propane Burner works best with larger woks between 20-28". (One customer said it works best with a 22-24" wok)

4) BTUs?

BTU stands for British Thermal Unit. It's a measure of energy output and gives you an idea of the heat the unit is capable of putting out. Yes, the higher the BTUs, the hotter your burner will get. The truth is, most wok applications won't require anything over 65,000 BTU. If you'd like to keep your options open, go with a higher BTU level (between 100,000-200,000BTU).

If you're just interested in cooking basic stir fry meals, anything over 60,000 BTUs should do the trick. If you want the biggest burner for the biggest wok, the ARC USA Burner has the highest BTUs and largest opening on our list.

The 360-degree flame-protective wind guard ensures that cooking when it’s windy out won’t be an issue and the removable wheels and legs allow for easy portability. Summary:

While this burner is significantly heavier than some of the other burners on this list, making it one of the less portable wok burners, users appreciate the speed at which it heats up and the fact that no assembly is required. There wasn’t much negative feedback aside from the fact that you need a fairly large pot for this burner and the included regulator isn’t made well (some aren't at least), so some had to purchase additional materials.

Summary:

Used by reviewers mainly for home brewing, this burner is a decent option for the price. It’s a stable and heavy duty burner with the ability to reach 200,000 BTU, but its wind guards have been criticized as being ineffective and many users have complained about the strong odor the burner gives off the first few times it’s used as much of the paint is burned off.

Summary:

Meant for tailgating or camping, this lightweight outdoor burner is easy to assemble and is compact enough to be portable. Reviewers mention that the burner is constructed fairly well and works well, but that the hardware included is of low quality and the packaging the product comes in is not protective. This budget-friendly burner is perfect for less frequent use, like when you need an outdoor burner for the occasional tailgate or camping trip.

While made for commercial use, many of the reviews for this product are home cooks who successfully use this range either in their backyard or in the kitchen. There’s no question that at over 90 pounds the Kitma Range is extremely sturdy, but this also makes it harder to transport than other burners on this list. If you go with this one you’ll need to purchase your own regulator and hose, but it’s a powerful and durable option.
