Summary:

The Comfee 4-Slice Toaster oven is a cheap, versatile unit that has all the basic components of a good toaster oven. Buyer reviews showed that people were overall very happy with the price, compactness, and speed of heating. The only negative responses I found were those who thought it toasted unevenly due to the rack positions being too close to the heating elements. These complaints were countered by people who swore by the even heat, so it really depends on how high your expectations are.

If you're looking for a "bare bones" toaster oven that heats well and sells for a fraction of the competitor prices, I highly recommend looking into the Comfee 4-Slice Toaster Oven.

Summary:

Another stellar budget item that delivers everything a baseline toaster oven should deliver. Simple bake, toast and broil functions to give you all the capabilities of a full size oven (minus the size). The simple design and manual controls make the ease of use one of its greatest selling points.

This toaster oven features similar customer remarks as the Comfee model above it. Customers were very happy with the price, cook times, and compact design of the Proctor Silex Toaster Oven. The only common customer complaints were those that reflected an overall lack of research on the product they bought. Check out the cons list above to see what I mean. These are customers complaining about features the oven explicitly advertises.

Summary:

Having read through hundreds of toaster oven reviews, I can confidently tell you that Black and Decker customers are as loyal as they come. Countless times customers have expressed their distaste for their new product by saying how badly they wished they had their old Black and Decker back. While this is one of their cheaper units, it has elicited some commendable customer responses.

It doesn't have a lot of reviews, but it does have a 2 year warranty which is double the warranty period of our 3 leaders in this toaster oven category; Breville, Hamilton and Panasonic.

Summary:

Another well-reviewed Black and Decker Model. As you can see, the features are practically identical to the Black and Decker above.

The Main Differences...

1) A third Knob in the Middle that Allows you to Set the Cook Setting.

2) The Convection Option is "natural", which means it relies on the circulation of heat without a convection fan.

3) This unit has far more amazon reviews, which can give you a more accurate representation of the product at hand.

Again, Black and Decker does have a 2 year warranty which is an attractive selling point for this toaster oven.

5) Hamilton Beach 4-Slice Toaster Oven (31401)

  • Toast Shade Increments too Close
  • Rare Occasions of Fire and Broken Glass. (Could be faulty units or User Error)

Summary:

This Hamilton model was one of the more difficult toaster ovens to review. Not because it isn't a fantastic unit, but because there were highly conflicting reviews.

Extremely conflicting...

In other words, some people loved this model so much as to say they'd never buy another toaster oven ever again. While others said it was the biggest piece of crap they'd ever bought.

So, I have a few theories...

1) With such a high number of reviews, it's likely that this product has been on the market for quite some time. That means its had the chance to have problems identified and solved by Hamilton.

or

2) People have vastly different ideas of what constitutes a good, budget toaster oven. In fact, there were several people who commented on how shocked they were that people had such high expectations of an oven that sells for $40.

Yes, it's probably a mixture of the two. Every purchase is a roll of the dice. The smart move is to mitigate risk, and regardless of the negative remarks, this toaster oven has maintained a 4.2 out of 5 star review after over 1100 reviews.

6) Mueller 4-Slice Toaster Oven

  • Cost: Below $70

  • Stainless Steel Easy to Clean

Cons

  • Not Clear on What Temp to Toast on
  • Rack Doesn't Come out when Oven Door Opened
  • Lower Wattage than Similar Priced Competitors
  • Better for Baking than Toasting
  • Lightweight

Summary:

In every industry, there is always a battle between companies for the best price and product. Companies rival back and forth hoping to outcompete their opponents, and then something unexpected happens...

A new company comes in

and this new company designs a higher quality, lower priced product that exceeds the market's expectations ten-fold.

Mueller is that company

Mueller continually has the highest review counts and product ratings because they consistently make products that are of higher quality, that sell for the price of lower quality equipment. They also have amazing customer service and a 2 year warranty.

Just make sure you have your expectations realistically set. While this product receives a staggering number of positive reviews, this is still a budget product. It won't be able to compete with the cooking power of the Breville and Panasonic below.

7) Breville 4-Slice Mini Smart Oven (BOV450XL)

  • Cost: Under $200
  • Warranty: 1 Year Limited

Pros

  • Fantastic for Cooking and Toasting Anything. Versatile!
  • Quartz heats up extremely fast
  • Great Anti-Stick Inside
  • Heavy Duty Pan Included
  • Most Superior 4-Slice Toaster Oven on the Market

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Sometimes Heating Elements Give Out
  • Gets Very Hot (All ovens get hot)
  • Has Back Bumpers on the Back that Keep Hot Surface From Touching Wall.
  • Plug too Large

Summary:

Breville is a top of the line kitchen appliance manufacturer, and let me tell you, they've made quite the name for themself. After 3000 reviews, this model has sustained an average 4.4 / 5 stars on Amazon (as of 5/28/2020). Hopefully I don't need to convince you of the unique nature of this staggeringly high review average. It is, by and large, the best 4-slice toaster oven on the market.

Here are the distinguishing qualities of the Breville Mini Smart Oven...

-Breville has four 1800 watt heating elements which far exceed the power output of any competitors. This means consistently faster and hotter heat.

-Breville has 4 Quartz heating elements that will heat, independently of one another, to produce the most appropriate heat possible.

-Breville has 8 different cook settings for versatile cooking.

-Breville has a memory function that automatically remembers the settings of your cooks. So once you dial in your cook temperature for each setting, the smart oven remembers this setting the next time you cook it.

Again, the best 4-slice toaster oven on the market. The only rational common negative response I've heard from customers is the longevity. While Breville makes superior equipment, they don't always last as long as people had hoped. If Breville had a 2 year warranty, this product would be absolutely perfect.

8) Breville 4-Slice Compact Smart Oven (BOV650XL)

  • Cost: Under $200
  • Warranty: 1 Year Limited
  • # Reviews: Over 2500 reviews

Dimensions

  • Fits 4 Slices of Bread or 12" Pizza
  • LCD Display turns Orange when Preheating, Blue when Preheated

  • Four 1800 Watt Quartz Heating Elements
  • Timer w/ Auto Shut Off
  • 3 Rack Positions
  • Includes Rack, Pan, and Broil Rack
  • Stainless Steel Finish
  • Removable Crumb Tray

Pros

  • Customer Service not Great
  • High Temperatures Great for Reheating Meals for a Crispy Crust
  • Preset Settings Easy to Adjust
  • Toasting is Fine-Tuned and can be Perfectly set to Your Standards
  • Solid Build (Far Heavier than Competitor Ovens)

Cons

  • Needs at least 4" Clearance on every side (more is better)
  • Sharp Edges on Crumb Tray
  • Gets Very Hot (All ovens get hot)
  • Temperatures Slightly Off (this is usual)
  • Random, Defective Units (Return for a new one)

Summary:

This Breville is almost identical to the one above it. The only differences I've been able to discover...

1) This unit is slightly bigger, which can be good or bad depending on your space constraints or cooking needs. This Breville can fit a 12" pizza whereas the BOV450XL can only fit an 11" pizza.

2) This Unit comes with a broiler rack, whereas the Breville BOV450XL does not.

3) This unit does not have the "a bit more" function that allows you to add a bit more time to your cooks.

4) The control display is oriented slightly different.

Both Brevilles have outstanding reviews and similar qualities. This one, however, might be a little harder to find new.

  • Extremely Fast Heat (Most Common Response)
  • Heats Evenly and the 1 Rack Position is Directly in the Middle.
  • Great for Bread, Frozen Meals, Reheating, Or Toasting

Cons

  • Funky Shape
  • People say they Like the Older Model Better
  • Tends to Last 2 Years
  • Wastes Space
  • Customer Service not Great
  • Expensive

Summary:

Probably the most unique-looking, retro style toaster over on our list. But don't be misled by the classic look. This toaster oven has all the qualities of a top of the line, contemporary toaster oven. Here are some of the defining qualities of the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster Oven...

1) Unique cook settings that were created specifically for frozen meals, reheating refrigerated meals, and toasting.

2) Easy to use controls that allow you to dial in the perfect temperature for your cook.

3) The highest review count on our list, maintaining a 4.4 / 5 star rating (as of 5/30/2020) with over 3500 reviews.

Again, great for heating up frozen foods and toasting. There are, however, mixed reviews on its ability to bake proficiently. Consider what you will be cooking and decide whether this model is for you.
