Hello there! I’m Nadia Elyaouti...
M.Ed, mom of three, and cleaning guru here at Robust Kitchen.
Professional Background
After receiving my Master's in education and spending the better part of a decade as an educator, I left my classroom to focus on what really mattered in my life - my family. Not long after shifting my focus to my home did I find myself sharing with my readers my favorite tips for keeping my home organized. After transitioning from the classroom to the blogging world, I focused on writing about topics I loved; parenting, cleaning, all things organization.
Any parent will tell you that the key to a functioning household is organization and plenty of life hacks. As a former teacher, organization and hacks of all sorts were the name of the game. When I left the classroom, I brought those skills to my home, particularly my kitchen, and it has made a world of a difference. After hundreds of product reviews on household appliances, cleaning products, and cleaning routines, I’ve made it my mission to not only share with you my favorite tips and tricks in the kitchen, but to walk you through the best cleaning methods that won't break the bank. Say goodbye to expensive cleaning products and hello to cleaning methods you can pull off in your kitchen using items you probably already have!
How I Became a Cleaning Expert
Like many homes, my kitchen space has become the “hub” of our house. Our counter space is where experiments take place and our kitchen appliances have had more than their fair share of attention and love. Because of all the messes that go on, cleaning is an important part of the functionality of our kitchen. It’s not just about keeping things clean either, it’s about developing great cleaning habits that are safe for both my kitchen appliances and my kids.
Over the years, through a mixture of trial and error, testing out different kitchen appliances, and blogging about every cleaning product you can think of, I’ve found that for the most part, simple ingredients in your pantry can usually offer all the cleaning power you need. When it comes to tougher stains and burned on messes, I have my go to list of powerful cleaning products that get rid of hard to clean messes all while keeping my appliances and my family safe.
How I Craft My Cleaning Routines
Like a good recipe, one size certainly does not fit all. Sometimes you need a little extra salt or a double helping of chocolate chips. The same goes for my cleaning routines. Different kitchen appliances require different cleaning methods, and using a “one method fits all” approach will most certainly lead to wasted time cleaning out cooked messes, wasted money on unneeded cleaning products, and worse of all, damaged cooking appliances.
My cleaning methods take into account the different materials appliances are made out of and how different cleaning agents react with the different types of appliances, and of course other cleaning agents. For example, you would never clean a nonstick pan the same way you would a stainless steel pan.
When developing my cleaning methods, I like to start with non-abrasive, common household items first. If you are new to deep cleaning around in your kitchen, you’d be surprised at the different ways you can use a box of baking soda and vinegar! In our home, we try to avoid harsh chemicals as best we can. While harsher chemicals are powerful, they might not always be the best option especially when you have kids and pets in the home. As a mom who cooks and cleans throughout the day, there are times when burnt on stains (and I’ll admit, lingering grease stains) call for stronger cleaning products. When that’s the case, I share my recommendations of great products that are powerful yet safe.
When I’m not trying out new cleaning techniques, trying different cleaning products, and playing around with new appliances, I enjoy spending time with my lovely husband Ash and our three wonderful children. One of my most favorite ways to spend my time is by traveling the world with my partner in crime. To follow our adventures both in and out of our kitchen, be sure to check out my Instagram. There, you’ll find inspiration for the latest hack to try out in your kitchen. You can keep up with my family, cleaning routine, and latest blog posts on Facebook as well!
